Valnet and Piqua Coop Bring Broadband to Piqua
Independence, KS, March 24, 2010 — The Piqua Farmers Cooperative Association has teamed up with Valnet Telecommunications to bring their high-speed wireless Internet service to the Piqua area. The expected range of the wireless service extending from Piqua is an 8-10 mile radius out into the surrounding county. The system is expected to be active within a week.
“We look forward to having wireless here at the coop in the next few days,” said Marvin Lynch, Manager of the Piqua Farmers Coop, “More than ever, Internet access is needed by our members to manage their businesses and to inform and educate their families.”
Similar in performance to the DSL service found in bigger cities, fixed wireless Internet is a viable alternative for rural areas that does not need or use a telephone line. Valnet’s wireless system has a typical reach of about ten miles from each access point and requires a direct line-of-sight from the user to the access point atop the 140 foot Piqua Farmers Coop elevator.
“Valnet is pleased to be working with the Piqua Farmers Coop to bring Internet access to the Piqua region,” said Don Bledsoe, Valnet Marketing Manager, “and this will be a vital link to rural households here and in Yates Center. With the Coop’s help, Valnet can provide a higher performance, lower cost service than would otherwise be available.”
